Hospital Photography Sessions

Hospital photography sessions are often called ….”Fresh 48 Sessions.”

The idea is to capture the raw, fleeting memories of your sweet babies arrival within the first 48 hours! It’s all about the newness of your child’s birth in the first few hours! Tiny fingers and wrinkly feet, wispy hair, soft flaky skin,  the skin to skin, the blue and pink hospital blankets, the bassinet or better yet, meeting your siblings for the first time! These moments pass so quickly. I’ll capture all the little details before the reality of going home with a new baby hits.

Having a baby is exhausting, exhilarating, and often becomes a hazy memory as you navigate motherhood with this new little person. Fresh 48 sessions aim to capture the emotions you feel during this amazing and impactful moment in your life, so the sessions are documentary in nature. No props or poses, just you and your brand new baby. Most sessions only include immediate family (mom, dad, siblings) but that is up to you! If you want your extended family to be there that’s okay too. It’s your birthday party!

You can expect the session to last between 30-60 minutes depending on the hospital schedule and of course your baby. I deliver most of the images in black and white and maybe a few in color. I find all the colors in the hospital room with machines etc can be distracting and the images look best in black and white. However, I did not have the heart to make these images black and white when I saw all this red hair. So my rule went out of the window!

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens if my baby doesn’t arrive on their due date?

Don’t worry! Babies rarely arrive as scheduled and I am prepared for early or late arrivals. When you book a Fresh 48 session, weeks 38-41 are blocked off on the calendar.  If your little one arrives anytime during this window, I will be available within 48 hours for your session.

Can my older children be in the photos?

Absolutely! One of my favorite moments to capture is a big brother or sister meeting the new baby for the first time. I suggest we begin the session without older kids in the room to focus on the new baby and then your partner/grandparents can bring them in for the grand introduction.

I’m so honored to be there at the beginning of your little one’s journey to capture this time of beauty and innocence in professional photographs that you and your loved ones will always treasure. If you are interested in having a hospital photography session please reach out, I’d love to work with you. Book a studio newborn session and I will discount your hospital session!
